Exhibition: Colonial Stories-Power and People


Curated by Marie Okholm Ziegler at the GL Holtegaard, Denmark,  this exhibition marks the centenary of the sale of the Danish colonies in the West Indies, exploring the shared colonial history and power and powerlessness of this chapter of Danish history through historical artworks, cultural history materials, and contemporary art from Denmark and abroad. 

The exhibition will present works by acclaimed artists from Denmark and a range of other countries, including the British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare (1962-), Kenyan artist Wangechi Mutu (1972-), the Danish-Norwegian artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset (1961- and 1969-), Caribbean artist La Vaughn Belle (1974-), Dutch artist Patricia Kaersenhout (1966-), and a range of Danish artists, including: John Kørner (1967-), Jens Haaning (1965-), Joachim Koester (1962-), Mette Winckelmann (1971-), Jeannette Ehlers (1973-), C. W. Eckersberg (1783-1853), Hugo Larsen (1885-1950), Astrid Holm (1876-1937) and Fritz Melbye (1826-1869).
